Our Third Flag and the one that still waves over Texas today.  Approved by the Third Congress of the Republic of Texas in 1839.

Gonzales Flag / 1835

This flag resulted from a demand of the Mexicans on the Texans who had gathered at Gonzales to give up a cannon the Texans had borrowed from the Mexican garrison at San Antonio.  The cannon was lent to the Texans in order to help them defend Gonzales from Indian attacks.  (Click on Flag image for larger view)

Capt. Scott's Flag / 1835

The flag favored by the Liberals in Texas.  Conservatives rallied behind the Flag of 1824 (Alamo flag).  The Liberals had given up all hope for any solution to their differences with the Mexican Government.

Dodson Flag 1835

The first tri-color lone star flag to fly in the Texas air.  It was designed by Sarah Dodson, a native of Kentucky whose husband marched away to aid in freeing Texas.

Troutman Flag 1835

Made by Johanna Troutman, daughter of Colonel C.A. Troutman from Knoxville, Georgia, for a battallion of Georgia volunteers who aided the Texas cause.

Texas Navy Flag / 1836

A reproduction of the U.S. Flag except for its large white star.  When flown, it was often confused by the Mexican warships as a U.S. Warship, of which they hesitated to fight.  The Texas Navy was formed to hinder the Mexican government's attempts to blockade the Texas coast.

 Lone Star Flag / 1819-1821

Flown by Colonel James Long who set up a government at Nacogdoches and declared Texas a Republic. This was the flag carried b y the James Long expedition (the Second Repubic of Texas) which occupied the Presidio La Bahia in Goliad in October of 1821 in an attempt to establish an independent country; until it was captured by the Mexican Army.

Flag of The Republic of The Rio Grande Jan. 1840 - Oct. 1840

A group of rebels known as Federalists declared a Republic based on the Mexican Constitution of 1824.  This included the states of Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas, with its capital at Laredo.  They were defeated 283 days later.

Crockett Flag / 1836

One of the flags associated with the siege and fall of the Alamo; reportedly described in David Crockett's journal.

Dimmitt's Goliad Flag / 1835

Designed by Goliad garrison commander Capt. Phillip Dimmitt, and flown over the Presidio La Bahia; it was meant to reflect the Texans complete separation from Mexico as an independent Republic.  May have flown at the signing of the Goliad Declaration of Independence, December 1835 and said by some to be the "First Flag of Texas Independence."

Brown's Flag of Independence

May have been flown by Capt. William S. Brown at the Battle of Bexar and went with him to Goliad where he was a signer of the Goliad Delcaration of Indpendence.

New Orleans Grays Flag / 1835

Named for a group of volunteers from New Orleans who joined the Texas resistance to the Mexican dictatorship and fought at the Siege and Battle of Bexar, the Alamo and Goliad.  It was saved by Santa Anna as proof of foreign military intervention in the affairs of Mexican Texas.  It is still considered to be housed in a museum in Mexico City.

San Jacinto Flag / 1836

Presented to Sherman's Newport Volunteers upon their departure for Texas.  Sherman's regiment met General Houston in Gonzales after the Alamo defeat and followed him into the Battle of San Jacinto.  Thought to be the only  Battle Flag representing the Texian Army at San Jacinto where the Republic of Texas army won the War of Independence after surprising General Santa Anna.  It was here that the battle cry was heard:  Remember The Alamo ... Remember Goliad!"

Capt. Moseley Baker's San Felipe Flag / 1836

Presented to the company of volunteers commanded by Capt. Baker; it was claimed to have flown at San Jacinto by those in Sherman's division.
